This is the Missouri Star block. It was the very first barn block we put up.

How we started

In 2001, the Boonslick Area Tourism Council was formed. Our main goal was to educate the public on the rich history of Cooper, Howard and Saline counties.

On Labor Day 2002, we held the first annual Boonslick Folk Festival. The event was held at the Salt Lick State Historic Site in Howard County, which is the location of the early 1800's salt mining business operated by Daniel Boone's sons.

We continued to hold the Boonslick Folk Festival annually for 15 years. Now our largest and most ambitious undertaking is our barn quilt project. Today, there are  more than 60 barns with quilt blocks in the Boonslick region.

The Boonslick Area Tourism Council is a small group with only a dozen or so members. But we epitomize what a common goal and friendly cooperation, plus some hard work, can do for the rural communities.
